Easily one of my favourite records from 2010, Extra Life’s second album ‘Made Flesh’ was complex, yet highly engaging record that blended themes from renaissance music and neo-classical to progressive rock and math.
This year the group lead by former Dirty Projectors member, Charlie Looker, returned with a new album, entitled Dream Seeds. Having slimmed down to a three piece since ‘Made Flesh’ the arrangements on Dream Seeds are considerably more minimal and immediate, something which is immediately evident from the restrained acoustic opener ‘No Dreams Tonight’.
The following track ‘Righteous Seed’ ventures into the taut experimental prog of their earlier material as Charlie Looker haunting evocative, imagery weaves it’s way though sinister synthesizer chords, intricate percussion and choppy guitar lines.
